Australian authorities have identified two gunmen responsible for a deadly shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration as a Pakistani father and son duo, marking the country’s worst such incident in nearly 30 years despite stringent firearm regulations.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon confirmed that the attackers were 50-year-old Sajid Akram, who was killed by officers at the scene, and his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram, who sustained injuries and remains under medical care in hospital.

The assault claimed at least 15 lives, according to police statements on Monday. CBS News, citing US intelligence officials involved in the probe, reported that both individuals were Pakistani nationals. An image purportedly showing Sajid Akram’s New South Wales driver’s license has circulated widely on social media.
Eyewitness accounts described the ordeal lasting approximately 10 minutes on a warm evening, as panicked crowds of beachgoers fled across the sand and into surrounding areas.
The targeted event drew around 1,000 attendees to a park adjacent to the iconic beach for the Jewish festival observance.
