Bihar CM Race: Sanjay Kumar Jha Gains Support As Nitish Kumar Successor JD(U) Demands

Patna: The name of Sanjay Kumar Jha, national executive president of the Janata Dal (United), has gained significant support as a potential successor to Nitish Kumar for the post of Bihar Chief Minister. A group of JD(U) workers raised demands in Delhi on Friday for Jha, Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar, or senior leader Lalan Singh to take over the chief ministerial position.

The development unfolded as Nitish Kumar took oath as a Rajya Sabha member in the national capital. His move to the upper house has triggered widespread speculation that his long tenure as Chief Minister often referred to as the “Nitish Raj” may be nearing an end, making a leadership change in Bihar appear imminent.

According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, the workers expressed dissatisfaction with the current situation and insisted that one of the three names- Sanjay Kumar Jha, Nishant Kumar or Lalan Singh should be appointed as the next Chief Minister. Sanjay Kumar Jha, a close aide to Nitish Kumar, previously belonged to the BJP and maintains strong ties with senior BJP leaders including Amit Shah. He is also credited with playing a key role in bringing Nitish Kumar back to the NDA alliance.

While questions persist over whether the next Chief Minister will come from the BJP or JD(U) quota, with BJP leader Samrat Chaudhary seen as a potential contender from the saffron party, the workers’ push appears focused on retaining the post within the JD(U) fold.

Nitish Kumar was accompanied by Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalan Singh during his swearing-in ceremony, which further fuelled discussions on succession planning within the ruling NDA alliance in Bihar.
