Anand Mahindra and PM Modi Applaud Vantara’s Dedication to Animal Welfare in Jamnagar

In a heartwarming show of support, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra recently praised Vantara, an animal care center in Gujarat led by Anant Ambani. This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the facility and shared his own admiration for its efforts to rescue and rehabilitate abused animals. Located in Jamnagar, Vantara has gained attention for its compassionate work, including caring for elephants that have endured cruelty. The center’s mission to provide a safe haven for wildlife has also earned it a prestigious national award, highlighting its growing impact on animal welfare in India.

Anand Mahindra took to social media to express his admiration for Vantara after visiting the facility himself. He described the care and expertise at the center as “truly impressive and cutting-edge,” echoing sentiments shared by PM Modi. Mahindra emphasized how uplifting it was to see animals, once victims of misfortune, now thriving in a nurturing environment. His comments followed a post by the Prime Minister, who highlighted the story of an elephant at Vantara that survived a horrific acid attack.

PM Modi visited Vantara on a Sunday in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district and shared his observations on X. He described witnessing the careful treatment of the acid attack survivor, along with other elephants facing severe hardships—like those blinded by their handlers or injured by reckless drivers, such as one hit by a speeding truck. The Prime Minister used these examples to raise a pressing question: How can people act with such cruelty and carelessness toward animals? He urged society to reject such behavior and instead embrace kindness and responsibility toward wildlife.

Know About Vantara

Spanning over 3,000 acres within the Reliance Jamnagar refinery complex, Vantara serves as a sanctuary for animals that have suffered abuse or exploitation. The center focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife, with a special emphasis on captive elephants. Beyond providing medical care and safe habitats, Vantara also supports local communities by creating sustainable job opportunities. According to its website, the facility currently houses 2,000 animals from 43 different species. It boasts modern veterinary tools, enclosures designed to resemble natural environments, and a dedicated staff of more than 2,100 people.

Adding to its achievements, Vantara recently received the Prani Mitra National Award, India’s highest recognition for animal welfare, in the corporate category. The award, given by the Government of India, celebrates the efforts of the Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust (RKTEWT), a division of Vantara. The trust focuses on rescuing, treating, and providing lifelong care for elephants. Reliance Industries, which oversees Vantara, expressed pride in the accolade, noting it as a testament to the center’s meaningful contributions to animal welfare.
