New Delhi : Five people were killed after a portion of a wall collapsed inside the Humayun’s Tomb complex in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred at a Dargah located within the premises and seven people are still feared trapped under debris. The building – the Dargah Sharif Patte Shah – is located inside a 16th century complex of religious structures and gardens housing Mughal ruler Humayun’s mausoleum.

Officials informed that 11 people have been rescued from the site and have been admitted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. As per initial reports, the Delhi Fire Service and other emergency teams rushed to the location after receiving a call about the incident at approximately 3:51 pm, following which rescue operations were launched immediately. Five fire tenders have been rushed to the site and rescue operations are underway. Visuals from the site showed a small, lime-green building around an open courtyard. The roof on one side of the building appeared to have collapsed. Rescue workers were seen on site.

The Humayun’s Tomb complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a major tourist destination, dates back to the mid-16th century and draws a large number of visitors throughout the year.
