18 Killed In Israeli Strikes In Lebanon Amid US-Iran Deal Tensions

Jerusalem : At least 18 people were killed in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, according to Reuters. This was the second such attack since the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States was signed by President Donald Trump in Versailles, France, on Thursday.

Iran’s Fars News Agency said that Tehran “will not unilaterally implement its commitment” unless a ceasefire is reached in Lebanon. The Israeli military said its strikes targeted Hezbollah fighters and infrastructure that it claims are linked to Iran’s network in southern Lebanon. Israeli officials also said they carried out attacks on Hezbollah positions across southern Lebanon overnight and that operations were still continuing, with the situation remaining active.

“We encourage everyone in the Middle East region to stay committed to allowing our negotiations to move forward smoothly,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, a day after signing a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at ending nearly four months of conflict with Iran. The first reported attack after the agreement came from Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, which killed at least three people, according to Lebanese state media.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported on Thursday that an Israeli drone struck a car near the town of Kfar Tebnit, killing two people. It also said that at least one person was killed in a separate Israeli strike in Zabadin. Hezbollah said in a statement that it had repelled the Israeli offensive. The group claimed its fighters targeted Israeli troops and tanks using drones, rockets, and artillery during a four-day operation.
