Google has officially introduced “Gemini Spark”, a powerful cloud-based AI agent designed to handle tasks more independently than traditional AI chatbots. Revealed at Google I/O 2026, the new technology signals Google’s push toward smarter artificial intelligence that can work in the background without constant user input.
Unlike regular AI assistants that only respond when asked, Gemini Spark is built to stay active continuously through Google Cloud. The system can manage tasks such as sorting emails, organizing files, preparing summaries, scheduling reminders, and assisting with research even when users are away from their devices.
Google says Gemini Spark will work closely with apps inside Google Workspace, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The company is also expanding compatibility with external platforms, allowing the AI agent to connect with several third party services for a smoother digital workflow.
One of the biggest features of Gemini Spark is its ability to perform long-running tasks automatically. Users can assign a task once, and the AI continues working in the background without needing repeated instructions. However, Google has stated that users will remain in control, especially for sensitive actions such as payments, purchases, or sending important emails.
The launch comes at a time when major technology companies are racing to develop advanced AI agents capable of handling real world responsibilities rather than simply answering questions. Industry experts believe Gemini Spark could become an important step in making AI more practical for everyday productivity and business use.
For now, Gemini Spark is being released to selected users in the United States through Google’s premium AI subscription plans, while a broader rollout is expected in the coming months.
