Google recently addressed a glitch affecting its AI-powered Search feature after users discovered that inserting the word “disregard” into prompts could trigger unusual and inconsistent responses. The issue quickly gained attention online, with several users sharing screenshots that appeared to reveal conflicting personalities or tones within the AI system.
According to reports, the bug caused Google Search’s AI-generated summaries to ignore earlier instructions and respond in unexpected ways when users added the specific keyword. The behaviour led to discussions on social media, where many users claimed the AI appeared to switch between different conversational styles or identities.
Google later confirmed that the issue had been resolved. The company stated that the problem stemmed from a prompt-handling vulnerability within the AI system and that corrective measures were implemented shortly after the glitch surfaced publicly.
The incident once again highlighted the growing challenges faced by technology companies as they integrate generative AI into mainstream search platforms. Experts have repeatedly pointed out that AI models can sometimes produce unpredictable outputs when exposed to specially crafted prompts or prompt injection techniques.
