Wushu: Namrata Batra Creates History for India, Wins Silver at World Games

Chengdu (China): Namrata Batra has scripted history for India in the globally renowned sport of Wushu (Chinese martial art). She has become the first-ever Indian Wushu player to win a medal at a world competition in this discipline, clinching the silver medal on Tuesday by finishing second at the World Games.

Namrata had already made history by reaching the final, as no Indian had ever won a medal in a multinational Wushu competition before.

In Tuesday’s final of the women’s sanda 52kg category, Namrata lost 0-2 to China’s Mengyu Chen. Chen claimed the gold medal while Namrata secured the silver. In the semi-final, Namrata defeated Philippines’ Krizane Faith Collado 2-0 to book her place in the title clash.

Earlier, in archery, Rishabh Yadav became the first Indian man to win an individual medal at the World Games, bagging bronze in the men’s compound archery event.
