‘Warning’ to Pakistan — Suryakumar fully fit again

Mumbai: Ahead of the Asia Cup T20 in the UAE starting September 9, India has received a major boost. Suryakumar Yadav has been declared fit after clearing his fitness test at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar is set to meet in Mumbai on Tuesday, August 19 to finalise the squad.

India will open their campaign against the UAE on September 10, but all eyes are on the blockbuster clash against Pakistan on September 14. The arch-rivals could also face off again in the Super Four stage and possibly the final.

Suryakumar, who won the IPL 2025 Player of the Tournament award, underwent sports hernia surgery in Germany in June after discomfort in his right groin. Sports hernia is a condition commonly affecting athletes.

In IPL 2025, he scored 717 runs, becoming only the second Mumbai Indians player after Sachin Tendulkar to cross 600 runs in a season. He finished as the second-highest run-getter behind Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan (759 runs), playing a pivotal role in taking MI to the playoffs.

Earlier, in 2023, Suryakumar had undergone a knee surgery, during which he also had a similar sports hernia operation.
