Vaibhav’s explosive innings stuns BCCI—sent to Edgbaston to witness Gill’s masterclass!

Edgbaston: Just days after smashing a breathtaking 86 off 31 balls for India Under-19s against England U-19—an innings studded with 9 sixes and 6 fours—14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi found himself witnessing a real-time batting clinic from none other than Shubman Gill, courtesy of the BCCI.
Impressed by the youngster’s fearless approach, the board decided to reward and inspire Vaibhav by flying him to Edgbaston, where Gill was scripting his own epic on the second day of the Test against England. Cameras caught a smiling Suryavanshi in the stands alongside U-19 captain Ayush Mhatre, who also features in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings.
Vaibhav’s power-packed innings had come during the third ODI in Nottingham on Wednesday, helping India U-19 seal a 2-1 series lead by beating England with 33 balls to spare. His 9 sixes broke the previous Indian U-19 record held by Mandeep Singh (8 sixes).
His scores across the series were:
48 in the 1st match (June 27)
45 in the 2nd match (June 30)
86 (31) in the 3rd match (July 2)
Meanwhile, at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill was in a zone of his own. After resuming his innings at 114* on Thursday, the new India Test captain went on to post a career-best 269, narrowly missing a triple century. Still, he shattered multiple records:
Highest individual Test score by an Indian captain (breaking Virat Kohli’s 254 in 2016)
Second Indian skipper to score a double century in overseas Tests, after Kohli
As Gill powered India past the 500-run mark, the crowd erupted—and cameras caught a beaming Vaibhav Suryavanshi soaking it all in.
For Indian cricket, it was a symbolic moment: the future watching the present, with a nod from the board that talent will not go unnoticed.
