IPL 2025 Sensation: 14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Blasts Second-Fastest Century

In a stunning display of cricketing prowess, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books during Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) emphatic eight-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The young batter’s explosive 101 off 38 balls, including 11 sixes and seven fours, powered RR to chase down a daunting 210 in just 15.5 overs, ending their five-match losing streak in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Suryavanshi’s century, scored in a mere 35 balls, marked him as the youngest ever to achieve a hundred in T20 cricket, surpassing Vijay Zol’s record set at 18 years and 118 days in 2013. His blistering knock also became the second-fastest century in IPL history, trailing only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball feat in 2013, and the fastest by an Indian, eclipsing Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball hundred for RR in 2010.

The teenager’s onslaught began early, smashing 28 runs off Ishant Sharma’s fourth over and 30 off debutant Karim Janat’s first over, the latter being the most expensive first over by a bowler in IPL history. Suryavanshi’s 17-ball fifty was the quickest of the IPL 2025 season and the fastest against GT in the tournament’s history. It also ranked as the second-fastest for RR, behind Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 13-ball effort.

His 166-run opening stand with Jaiswal, who scored an unbeaten 70 off 40 balls, set a new RR record for the highest partnership in IPL, overtaking the 155 by Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal in 2022. Suryavanshi’s 11 sixes matched M Vijay’s record for the most by an Indian in an IPL innings and set a new RR benchmark, surpassing Sanju Samson’s 10 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2018.

Remarkably, 93.06% of Suryavanshi’s runs (94 out of 101) came from boundaries, the highest proportion in a T20 century, beating Abhishek Sharma’s 92.45% in 2024. The chase itself was historic, with RR completing the 210-run target in 15.5 overs, the fastest 200-plus chase in men’s T20 cricket, bettering the previous best of 16 overs by Surrey, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Pakistan.

Suryavanshi’s performance earned him the Player of the Match award, and his fearless batting against a formidable GT attack, including Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna, drew widespread acclaim. The victory lifted RR to eighth in the IPL 2025 standings with six points, keeping their playoff hopes alive, while GT slipped to third after their third loss in nine matches.
