Suryakumar Yadav Rushes To England — Do You Know Why?

New Delhi: India’s T20 captain and Mumbai Indians (MI) star — who recently ended IPL 2025 as the second-highest run-scorer with 717 runs — Suryakumar Yadav has suddenly flown to England. With just two days left for India’s Test series against England to begin, many are wondering why Suryakumar — known as a T20 specialist, not a red-ball regular — has gone there.

But the real reason is entirely different. Suryakumar has gone to consult specialists in England regarding Sports Hernia issues. He is also open to undergoing surgery if required.

After IPL, Suryakumar also participated in the Mumbai Premier T20 League. It’s unclear whether the pain began during that league, but he has been playing continuously for the last three months.

What is Sports Hernia?

Sports Hernia is a condition that causes pain in the lower abdominal/pelvic area, particularly common among players and athletes. Suryakumar is experiencing intense pain in the lower right side of his abdomen. This type of injury, typically unrelated to a visible bulge like common hernia, is referred to as “sports hernia” due to its frequent occurrence in players and athletes.

With no T20 series scheduled before August-September, this is the ideal time for Surya to undergo treatment or even surgery if necessary. After the procedure, he is expected to undergo rest and rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
