What happened
India captain Suryakumar Yadav spoke to the media with Abhishek Sharma on Sunday after India beat Pakistan by five wickets to win the Asia Cup final. The tournament ended in controversy when ACC chief and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy and medals away after India declined to receive them from him because of his political role in Pakistan.

The reporter’s claim
During the press conference, a Pakistani reporter accused Suryakumar of mixing politics with cricket throughout the tournament. The reporter said India did not shake hands with Pakistan players, did a trophy photo session, and then held what he called a “political” press conference. He asked if Suryakumar thought he was the first captain to bring politics into cricket.

On Mohsin Naqvi’s action
Suryakumar also criticised Mohsin Naqvi for taking the trophy away. He said he had never seen a champion team denied a trophy, especially after earning it the hard way.
