Shreyas Iyer’s Red-Ball Cricket Break: BCCI Source Reveals Reason Behind India A Exit

In a surprising last-minute move, Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer stepped down from the India A captaincy and withdrew from the match against Australia A, citing personal reasons. A new report has now shed light on the specific physical issue he communicated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee.
According to a report in the Indian Express, Iyer informed the selectors that he is experiencing stiffness in his back, which is currently limiting his ability to perform in the demanding red-ball format. The middle-order batter reportedly expressed that he cannot be on the field for more than four days at a stretch and has therefore decided to take a break from first-class cricket until his body recovers.
Iyer apparently cited an example from a Ranji Trophy game last year where he needed to take frequent breaks between overs, a luxury not available during official India A or Test matches.
A BCCI source confirmed the development to the newspaper, stating that the cricketer has made his position clear. “He has informed us that he will be taking a break from red ball cricket and it’s good that he has cleared it out because selectors are now clear about his future. He won’t be playing red ball cricket in coming months and he has informed the board that he will assess his body in future in consultation with physios and trainer and take a call on it,” the source was quoted as saying.
This withdrawal comes just ahead of the BCCI’s squad selection meeting for the upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies, for which Iyer was reportedly a potential candidate.
