Rohit-Virat to Return only in Perth?; BCCI likely to postpone Bangladesh tour due to political unrest

New Delhi: Due to heightened political unrest and public dissatisfaction in Bangladesh, the BCCI is almost certain to postpone India’s scheduled tour in August, which included three ODIs and three T20Is. This means the much-anticipated on-field return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is likely to be delayed until October, when India play Australia in Perth.
Both senior batters have retired from T20Is and Tests, but remain available for ODIs. They were expected to feature in the Bangladesh ODIs this August, marking their return since the World Cup, but safety concerns have led the BCCI to reconsider the tour.
According to PTI, a senior BCCI source confirmed:
“The Bangladesh tour is not cancelled but postponed. It will now be held in 2026, as those ODIs are linked to World Cup qualification.”
India was originally set to tour Bangladesh between August 17 and 31. With this tour now on hold, their next confirmed ODI assignment will be on October 19 in Perth, against Australia—the opening match of India’s full tour down under.
Before that, Team India will only play Test and T20I series, which Rohit and Virat are no longer part of. The BCCI is reportedly waiting for Bangladesh’s national elections to be held and for the situation to normalize before rescheduling the tour.
In short:
Bangladesh tour (Aug) – postponed due to unrest
Rohit & Virat – likely return only in ODIs vs Australia
Next match – October 19, 2025 – Perth ODI vs Australia
Fans will now have to wait three more months to watch the legendary duo back in action.
