India has appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain of its One Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia, beginning October 19. The squad was finalized by chief selector Ajit Agarkar during a selection committee meeting held in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 4.
The decision marks a significant step in India’s leadership transition, with Gill set to lead the side for the first time in ODIs. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed vice-captain, succeeding Gill, who previously served in that role.
During a press briefing, Agarkar confirmed that captain Rohit Sharma had been informed about the leadership change. Both Rohit and former skipper Virat Kohli have been included in the squad, ensuring a strong mix of experience and youth for the series.
