Rishabh Pant walks off injured at Lord’s, Gautam Gambhir rushes from balcony to check on him: Here’s what happened

London: India faced a tense moment on the opening day of the third Test against England at Lord’s when vice-captain Rishabh Pant left the field with a hand injury during the second session, prompting concern in the Indian camp. Substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel stepped in to replace him, as reported by PTI.
The incident unfolded in the 34th over of England’s first innings when a fuller delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, angled down the leg side to Ollie Pope, struck Pant’s left-hand fingertips. The wicketkeeper had dived left to collect the ball but was left in visible pain. Earlier, in the 26th over, another Bumrah delivery had caused discomfort when a ball nipped in and narrowly missed the stumps, requiring medical attention. However, the 34th-over blow proved more severe.
Pant, clutching his hand and wincing, was attended by the team physio, who applied spray and heavily taped his fingers. India head coach Gautam Gambhir, watching anxiously from the dressing room, engaged in urgent talks with support staff. Meanwhile, Jurel raced down the Lord’s corridor, signaling to captain Shubman Gill to prepare for a potential substitution.
Despite initial resistance, Pant resumed keeping, grimacing as he donned his gloves. But after just three more deliveries, he relented, exiting the field at the over’s end. Jurel took over, while Pant briefly sat in the dugout before heading to the dressing room. Gambhir, stationed at the Lord’s balcony, immediately left his seat to check on the star player, raising concerns among commentators about the injury’s severity.
Earlier, England won the toss and chose to bat. Their openers weathered the early storm, but Nitish Kumar Reddy’s twin strikes in his first over dismissed Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, leaving England at 83-2 by the first session’s close.
