PM Narendra Modi to Meet World Cup-Winning Indian Women’s Cricket Team After Historic Triumph – Source

Fresh off their World Cup victory at the DY Patil Stadium, India’s women’s cricket team is all set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi this week. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad scripted history on Sunday by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at Navi Mumbai, clinching India’s long-awaited global title.

According to reports, the champions currently in Mumbai will fly to the national capital for their meeting with PM Modi on Wednesday.

Shortly after the win, the Prime Minister took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate the team, hailing their performance as “spectacular” and commending their teamwork and determination.

“A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports,” PM Modi wrote.

While celebrations are underway, the BCCI is yet to finalise plans for an official victory parade. Speaking to IANS from Mumbai airport, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that no such event has been scheduled yet.

“Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now. I’m leaving for Dubai to attend ICC meetings, and several senior officials are also travelling there. Once we return, we’ll plan accordingly,” Saikia said.

The ICC meetings, taking place in Dubai from November 4 to 7, have kept top BCCI executives occupied. Decisions regarding the felicitation ceremony and celebration plans will likely be made after their return.

To honour the players and support staff, the BCCI has announced a ₹51 crore cash reward. Saikia lauded the champions, saying, “Harmanpreet Kaur and her team haven’t just won a trophy they’ve won the hearts of every Indian. This victory marks a new dawn for women’s cricket in India.”
