Neeraj Chopra Clinches Second Title In Four Days – But Why Is He Not Satisfied?

Ostrava (Czech Republic): Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra has achieved something rare in his career—back-to-back titles in just four days. On Tuesday, he secured first place at the Golden Spike Meet in Ostrava with a modest throw of 85.29 meters, in what was his debut appearance at this historic event.

Despite the win, Neeraj expressed dissatisfaction with his performance. His throw, while enough to beat the competition, was below his own high standards. South Africa’s Dow Smit came second with 84.12m, and two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada took third with 83.63m.

Only four days earlier, on June 20, Neeraj had triumphed in the Paris Diamond League with a season-best throw of 88.16 meters. Back in May, he had crossed the 90.00-meter mark for the first time in his career, marking a historic personal milestone.

2025: A special year for Neeraj

In January 2025, Neeraj married former tennis player Himani Mor, and so far, the year has proven lucky for him both personally and professionally. The Golden Spike Meet featured nine competitors, and Neeraj’s throw was the best among them.

The Czech Republic is considered a javelin-throwing hub, and Jan Železný, the sport’s greatest legend and current coach of Neeraj, still holds the world record of 98.48 meters—unchallenged for 29 years.

After winning in Ostrava, Neeraj said:

“I’m not satisfied with today’s performance. The crowd was amazing, the stadium was full, and javelin is hugely popular here. I expected to do better. Still, I’m happy to win this title. I used to watch this competition as a kid and dreamt of winning it one day. I’ve seen legends like Železný and Usain Bolt perform here. Now, having my name among the winners is a truly special feeling.”
