Gujarat Titan Defeats Mumbai Indians, Kagiso Rabada Picks up Hardik Pandya

Gujarat Titan has defeated Mumbai Indians today. Gujarat Titans have posted 196 on the board for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan (63) top scored for Gujarat. Hardik Pandya shone with the ball for Mumbai Indians with two wickets. There is dew and it’s a two-paced pitch. Mumbai need a good start in the powerplay.

After losing their respective opening games, GT and MI are looking to get their first points when they lock horns at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. MI has always been a slow starter, not winning their opening game since 2012. Yet, their five IPL titles show that they tend to gain momentum as the tournament progresses. Therefore, GT cannot afford to lower their guard by any stretch of the imagination.

Mumbai Indians have won the toss and have opted to bowl first. The team makes a crucial change, bringing in experienced Mujeeb Ur Rahman in place of Vignesh Puthur. Gujarat on the other hand are unchanged and continue to bench Glenn Phillips despite an incredible Champions Trophy outing earlier in March. On the very last ball of the 9th over from Sai Kishore, in an attempt to save a boundary from Suryakumar Yadav, Sai Sudharsan seemed to have pulled his hamstring and the GT medical staff rushed to treat him.

For the moment, Sudharshan looks in some serious discomfort as he is carried off the field. This has been a brilliant spell so far from Ishant Sharma, which shows how much experience matters in high value IPL fixtures. While both MI batters – Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav are trying to find some momentum in this runchase, Ishant has effectively kept them in check despite some boundaries in the middle.
