‘Major Concern’: Mohammad Kaif Questions Bumrah’s Bowling Strategy; Warns it Could Backfire in World Cup

Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif has raised concerns about the management of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah’s role in India’s white-ball setup, suggesting a recent shift in his bowling strategy could be a disadvantage against top teams.
In observations shared on social media platform X, Kaif pointed to the Asia Cup, where Bumrah, under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, delivered a three-over spell at the start of the innings. Kaif contrasted this with his usual role under skipper Rohit Sharma, where Bumrah would often be saved for critical death overs.
Kaif noted that while Bumrah’s preference to bowl after warming up is likely an injury-prevention measure, limiting him to just one over in the final 14 could offer a significant reprieve to opposition batters. “Against stronger teams at World Cup, this could hurt India,” Kaif remarked.
This debate emerges even as national selectors reaffirmed their full confidence in the fast bowler. On Thursday, Bumrah was named in the 15-member squad for the upcoming home Test series against the West Indies.
Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar, as reported by PTI, confirmed that Bumrah is “rested, fit, and eager to play both Tests.” The selection panel also announced several other changes to the Test squad. Devdutt Padikkal has been brought in to replace Karun Nair, while Sai Sudharsan has been backed for the number three position. Ravindra Jadeja will serve as vice-captain in the absence of Rishabh Pant.
