INDvsAUS: Bowlers Power India to T20I Series Win Over Australia
A disciplined and incisive bowling performance saw India clinch the five-match T20I series against Australia, securing an unassailable 2-1 lead with a commanding 48-run victory in the fourth match at Carrara Oval, Queensland. Led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian team successfully defended a modest total of 167, bundling out the hosts for 119 in just 18.2 overs.
Spin and Pace Derail Aussie Chase
Chasing 168, Australia began confidently with openers Matthew Short and Mitchell Marsh putting on a brisk start. However, the momentum shifted decisively once spin was introduced. Axar Patel, named Player of the Match, delivered the crucial first blow by trapping Matthew Short (25 off 19). All-rounder Shivam Dube then broke the back of the Australian middle order with a quick double-strike, sending back captain Mitchell Marsh (30 off 24) and the dangerous Tim David (14 off 9) in consecutive overs.

From a promising position, Australia collapsed under the pressure of the climbing run rate. Washington Sundar delivered a spectacular final spell, claiming an incredible 3 wickets for just 3 runs to wipe out the tail and seal a comprehensive win for the visitors. Varun Chakaravarthy and Arshdeep Singh also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
A Tale of Two Captains
After the match, Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh conceded that his team failed to build crucial partnerships. “Around 167 was a bit hard on that wicket,” he stated, acknowledging that India’s bowlers adapted better to the conditions. “Fair play to India they’re a world-class team, especially in these conditions.”
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav praised his bowlers for an “amazing” performance, especially considering the presence of dew. He also lauded his openers for their smart approach on a tricky surface. “Abhishek and Shubman realised it wasn’t a 200-plus wicket. They batted smartly,” Suryakumar commented. “The messages from outside were clear play percentage cricket, take it deep.”
India’s Pragmatic Batting Effort
Earlier, India’s innings was built on a solid foundation laid by openers Abhishek Sharma (28 off 21) and Shubman Gill, who top-scored with a well-made 46 off 39 balls. Their 56-run partnership set the stage, but Australia’s bowlers, led by Nathan Ellis (3/21), fought back with regular wickets. Shivam Dube contributed 22, while Suryakumar Yadav played a fiery cameo of 20 from 10 balls. A vital late surge from Axar Patel, who scored 21 not out from 11 balls, propelled India to a competitive total of 167 for 8. Adam Zampa also picked up three wickets for Australia.
