In a disturbing incident in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, two members of the Australian women’s cricket team were stalked, and one was allegedly molested by a man on a motorcycle ahead of their World Cup match. Police confirmed the arrest of the accused on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning on Khajrana Road when the two players were walking from their hotel to a nearby cafe. According to Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi, a man on a motorcycle started following them and inappropriately touched one of the cricketers before speeding away. Cricket Australia confirmed the incident, stating two players were “approached and touched inappropriately.”
The players immediately alerted their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who coordinated with local police. Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra recorded their statements, and an FIR was filed at the MIG Police Station under sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A crucial tip from a bystander who noted the motorcycle’s registration number led police to swiftly identify and arrest the accused, Akil Khan. Police stated that Khan has a prior criminal record, and the investigation is ongoing.

The incident occurred just hours before Australia’s final group-stage match against South Africa at Indore’s Holkar Stadium. Both teams have already secured spots in the semi-finals, but the match outcome will determine the group winner. The team that tops the group will face the Indian women’s team in the semi-finals, making the match critical for all three sides.
