New Pacer Kranti Goud Sets World Record, Hands India ODI Series Win

Chester-le-Street: While India’s men’s team continues to battle for parity in their ongoing Test series in England, the women’s team has made history. After clinching the T20I series, India’s women have now won the ODI series as well. On Tuesday, they defeated England by 13 runs in the third and final ODI to win the series 2–1.

The star of the day and the series was Kranti Goud, a new pace bowler who delivered a sensational performance of 6/52 in 9.5 overs, setting a world record in the process.

Harmanpreet’s Match-Winning Century

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series for her brilliant knock of 102 off 84 balls, including 14 boundaries. But the day truly belonged to 21-year-old Kranti Goud, playing just her fourth ODI, who ran through the England batting lineup and made victory look easier than it seemed.

With her performance, Kranti became the youngest woman in history to take six or more wickets in a One-Day International, breaking a 34-year-old world record held by England’s Jo Chamberlain (7/8 vs Denmark in 1991 at the age of 22).

Spin-Heavy Bowling Attack

Of India’s six bowlers in the match, five were spinners—Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Shree Charani, Radha Yadav, and Pratika Rawal. Kranti was the lone pace bowler, and her contribution proved decisive.

India Post 318/5 After Winning the Toss

India opted to bat first and posted an imposing 318/5 in 50 overs. Key contributions came from:

Harmanpreet Kaur – 102 (84 balls)

Jemimah Rodrigues – 50

Smriti Mandhana – 45

Harleen Deol – 45

Richa Ghosh – 38

Pratika Rawal – 26 (as opener)

England Fall Short Despite Big Partnership

Chasing a target of 319, England were bowled out for 305 in 49.5 overs just 13 runs short, denying them what would have been a world-record run chase in women’s ODIs.

The hosts were powered by a brilliant 162-run third-wicket stand between Nat Sciver-Brunt (98 off 105) and Emma Lamb (68 off 81). However, veteran spinner Deepti Sharma dismissed Sciver on 98, narrowly denying her a 10th ODI century and turning the tide in India’s favour.

Bowling Figures for India

Kranti Goud – 6/52 (9.5 overs)

Shree Charani – 2 wickets

Deepti Sharma – 1 wicket

India’s win marks a significant milestone, with the team now having claimed both the T20 and ODI series in England a rare and commendable double triumph on English soil.
