India vs West Indies1st Test Day 1: Rahul’s Half-Century Puts India in Control After Bundling Out West Indies for 162

KL Rahul’s unbeaten half-century placed India in a commanding position at the close of play on Day 1 of the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. India reached 121/2 at stumps, trailing the visitors by only 41 runs after an impressive bowling performance skittled them out for 162.

Earlier in the day, India’s pace duo made an immediate impact, with Mohammed Siraj tearing through the West Indies’ top order to claim four wickets. Jasprit Bumrah then returned to efficiently clean up the tail. Kuldeep Yadav, making his return to the Test side, also contributed with a valuable two-wicket haul to ensure the visitors’ innings was wrapped up swiftly.

In their reply, India’s innings had a cautious start and was briefly interrupted by rain at 23/0. After play resumed, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal provided momentum with a brisk 36 from 54 balls before he was dismissed in the final session.

KL Rahul anchored the innings with a composed and unbeaten 53 off 114 balls, including six fours, to steer India into a dominant position. With India trailing by just 41 runs, the team is well-poised to build a substantial first-innings lead on the second day.
