India Create History – Bowl Out Six Englishmen Batters For Zero, A First For England

Edgbaston – For only the second time in Test history, six opposition batters were dismissed for ducks (zero runs) in a single innings against India. This rare feat came on Day 3 of the second Test at Edgbaston, as the Indian bowling attack, led by Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, shattered England’s top and lower order.
The only other instance of this occurred in 1996, when South Africa lost six players for zero in their second innings during the Ahmedabad Test. Though for the first time England lost six batsmen for zero in an innings.
India seize control with dominant performance
India, riding on a massive first-innings total of 587, gained a 180-run lead after bowling England out for 407, despite a resilient 303-run stand between Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184)*.
By stumps on Day 3, India had further tightened their grip, reaching 1/64 in the second innings and extending their lead to 244. After losing the first Test at Leeds, this game offers India a strong opportunity to level the series.
The six English ducks
In a shocking sequence, these six England batters were dismissed without scoring: Ben Duckett (0), Ollie Pope (0), Captain Ben Stokes (0), Brydon Carse (0), Josh Tongue (0), Shoaib Bashir (0).
Historic parallel: Ahmedabad 1996
The only previous time this happened was during South Africa’s second innings in Ahmedabad in 1996, when these six batsmen were out for ducks:
Andrew Hudson (0), Daryll Cullinan (0), Jonty Rhodes (0), Pat Symcox (0), Fanie de Villiers (0), Paul Adams (0).
India had won that match by 64 runs, with Javagal Srinath taking 6 wickets, Anil Kumble 3 wickets and Sunil Joshi 1 wicket.
Bowling brilliance at Edgbaston
In the current Test Siraj took 6 wickets and Akash Deep took 4 wickets. Despite England’s powerful middle-order resistance, India struck back hard, exposing their top and tail with ruthless precision.
A first for England – at home
England, a 148-year-old Test-playing nation, had never lost six batters for zero in a single innings – until now. Previously, their worst collapse was five ducks, last seen in 1956 vs Australia at The Oval. But now, India has inflicted an even more humiliating record – and that too at England’s fortress – Edgbaston.
