Dubai : Norway’s Erling Haaland scored five goals to lead his team to a record-breaking 11-1 victory over Moldova in the 2026 FIFA World Cup European qualifying round on Tuesday. The Manchester City striker played despite receiving three stitches on his lip after an accident with a luggage door two days earlier.
Teammate Théo Asgård added four goals after coming off the bench, while Moldova’s only goal came via an own goal by Norway’s Leo Østigård. Norway’s win was just shy of West Germany’s 1969 record 12-0 win over Cyprus.
France, England Win; Egypt Held
Egypt’s hopes of qualification were dented after being held 0-0 by Burkina Faso. France came from behind to beat their opponent 2-1, with Kylian Mbappé scoring a penalty and assisting Bradley Barcola. England dominated Serbia 5-0 to strengthen their campaign.
