Bespectacled Left-Armed Spinner Passed Away Yesterday

New Delhi: Former Indian left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi passed away in London at the age of 77. He had been suffering from heart-related ailments. Between 1979 and 1983, Doshi represented India in 33 Test matches and 15 One-Day Internationals, claiming 114 and 22 wickets respectively.

Born in Rajkot, Gujarat, Doshi later settled in the UK but left a lasting legacy in Indian cricket history. His passing has prompted heartfelt tributes from legendary players including Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Sunil Joshi, and others.

Sachin Tendulkar:

“Dilipbhai was a very kind and affectionate person. I first met him during the 1990 England tour, and faced him in the nets. I was deeply impressed. I will dearly miss our cricket conversations. Om Shanti.”

Ravi Shastri:

“Dilipbhai was not only a fine spinner but also a wonderful human being. I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. His contributions to Indian spin bowling are remarkable.”

Farokh Engineer:

“Dilip Doshi was a very dear friend of mine. I can’t believe he is no more. He stayed with me briefly when he first came to England. I am truly shocked and send my deepest condolences to his wife Kalindi and family.”

Sunil Joshi:

“It’s hard to believe Dilip Sir is gone. I spoke with him just last Wednesday and he sounded healthy. He was a legendary spinner in every sense. My condolences to his son, former cricketer Nayan Doshi, and the entire Doshi family.”

“We are all deeply shocked by the news of Dilip Doshi’s demise. He possessed exceptional skill in spin bowling and was widely respected off the field as well. His contribution to Indian cricket will always be remembered. He inspired future generations through his dedication and craft.”
