Caribbean Triumph: West Indies seal ODI series win over Pakistan after 34 years

Tarouba – West Indies defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the three-match ODI series, securing their first such win over the Asian side in 34 years. Chasing a target of 295 in the deciding match on Tuesday, Pakistan collapsed to just 92 all out, with five of their batsmen dismissed for zero. Under the captaincy of Shai Hope, the hosts registered a thumping 202-run victory in the final ODI — their biggest win against a major cricketing nation in 11 years, since beating New Zealand by 203 runs. It was Pakistan’s worst defeat by runs.

First since 1991
The last time West Indies beat Pakistan in an ODI series was in 1991 under Richie Richardson, with greats like Desmond Haynes, Brian Lara, Carl Hooper, Malcolm Marshall, and Curtly Ambrose in the side, facing Imran Khan’s Pakistan. Since then, Pakistan had won 10 of 11 series between the two sides, with one drawn.
First series win in 25 years in any format
Overall, this was West Indies’ first series victory over Pakistan in 25 years — the previous one being a Test series win in 2000. In the 24 series since then, Pakistan had won 20 and drawn four.
Hope leads from the front
Batting first in the decider, West Indies posted 294 for 6 in 50 overs, with skipper Hope scoring an unbeaten 120 off 94 balls, including five sixes and 10 fours.
Seales’ six-wicket: Equals Garner
Pakistan’s reply never took off. Jayden Seales, 23, took 6 for 18, including four ducks, while Gudakesh Motie claimed 2 for 37. Seales’ feat matched a rare record for West Indies — the only previous instance being Joel Garner’s 6-wicket haul against England in the 1979 World Cup, which also included four ducks.
At one stage, Pakistan were 8 for 3, twice losing wickets off consecutive deliveries. Captain Mohammad Rizwan was among the five batsmen out for zero, while Babar Azam managed just nine.
Sweet revenge
Earlier in the tour, Pakistan had beaten West Indies 2-1 in the T20I series. This ODI triumph of 2-1 gave the Caribbean side the perfect payback.
