BCCI Pays Tribute to Former All-Rounder Syed Abid Ali After His Passing

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed profound sorrow over the demise of former Indian all-rounder Syed Abid Ali, who passed away at the age of 83 on March 12, 2025.
Abid Ali was renowned for his versatility on the cricket field during the 1960s and 70s, contributing significantly to India’s historic Test series victories in England and the West Indies in 1971. His ability to adapt to various roles made him a respected figure in Indian cricket.
BCCI President Roger Binny paid tribute, stating, “Shri Syed Abid Ali was a true all-rounder, a cricketer who embodied the spirit of the game. His contributions to India’s historic victories in the 1970s will always be remembered.” Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia also expressed condolences, highlighting Abid Ali’s gentlemanly conduct and invaluable contributions to Indian cricket.
Throughout his international career, Abid Ali played 29 Tests and five One Day Internationals (ODIs), making vital contributions that have left an indelible mark on the sport.
