Ashwin’s Anger Proves Costly: 30% Match Fee Deducted for Outburst at Umpire in TNPL Match

Coimbatore: India’s veteran spin legend Ravichandran Ashwin may have retired from international cricket, but he continues to participate in domestic T20 tournaments. A recent incident in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) involving Ashwin has sparked widespread discussion.
During a match between Dindigul Dragons and Tiruppur Tamizhans in Coimbatore, Ashwin lost his temper over an LBW decision. Ashwin, who captains the Dindigul Dragons, was declared out LBW by female umpire Kritika on a delivery from rival spinner R. Sai Kishore. With no reviews left, Ashwin had no option but to walk off the field.
However, Ashwin appeared frustrated, believing the ball had pitched outside the leg stump and would have missed the stumps. He argued with the umpire and, on his way back to the pavilion, angrily struck his pad with his bat and threw his gloves in the air.
As a consequence of this unsportsmanlike behavior, Ashwin has been fined 30% of his match fee.
Ashwin scored 18 runs off 11 balls, hitting one six and two fours. At the time of his dismissal, his team was 39/1. After his exit, Dindigul Dragons collapsed, losing their remaining nine wickets for just 54 more runs.
Tiruppur Tamizhans chased down the modest target of 94 runs with ease, losing only one wicket and reaching the total in just 49 balls.
This is the new season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Ashwin’s team currently stands fifth on the points table, with one win from two matches.
