
Sydney: Australia defeated England by five wickets in the fifth and final Test of the Ashes series at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday, sealing the trophy 4-1.
After Jacob Bethell was dismissed for 154 in the second innings, England were bowled out for 342. This set Australia a modest target of 160 runs to win.
Dramatic Final-Day Moments
Although the hosts made a steady start, they lost three wickets between 62 and 92 runs. The fourth wicket fell at 119, followed quickly by the fifth at 121, raising England’s hopes of a dramatic comeback.
Who Stopped the Collapse?
Wicketkeeper Alex Carey (16), along with Cameron Green (22), steadied the innings. The duo stitched together an unbeaten 40-run partnership to guide Australia to a thrilling victory. Australia eventually finished on 161/5.
Josh Tongue Claims Three Wickets
England pacer Josh Tongue picked up three wickets, while off-spinner Will Jacks claimed one. For Australia, Marnus Labuschagne, who top-scored with 37 in the second innings, was run out by Matthew Potts and Jamie Smith.

In the first innings, England scored 384, while Australia posted a commanding 567. Travis Head, who made 163 and 29 across the two innings, was named Man of the Match. He also ended the series as the highest run-scorer with 629 runs. Mitchell Starc, who claimed a total of 31 wickets, was awarded Man of the Series.
