Nagpur: Abhishek Sharma, who played a match-winning innings (84 runs, 35 balls, eight sixes and five fours) in the first T20 of the five-match series against New Zealand here on Wednesday, achieved a rare feat in T20 international cricket on the day, becoming the batsman to complete 5,000 runs in this format in the fastest time (fewest balls).
Abhishek reached 5,000 runs in 2,898 balls, breaking the world record of West Indies’ Andre Russell (2,942 balls). Abhishek achieved the milestone in 44 fewer balls than Russell. No other batsman has reached 5,000 runs with a strike rate of 160.00 or more.
Abhishek breaks Rohit and Surya’s record too
It was the seventh time on Wednesday that Abhishek completed a half-century in a T20 match in fewer than 25 balls. He broke the world record held jointly by Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, as well as England’s Phil Salt and West Indies’ Evin Lewis, who had each achieved this feat six times.

Rinku also creates a record
Among batsmen who have scored more than 100 runs in the 19th and 20th overs in T20 international matches, Rinku has the best strike rate of 287.83. He has scored 243 runs off a total of 74 balls in the 19th and 20th overs he has played, including 22 sixes and 14 fours. In all 20th overs combined, he has scored at a strike rate of 302.63.

Arshdeep also enters the record books
Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has taken a total of 28 wickets in all T20 matches in which he has opened the bowling, which is now a world record. He has gone past Shaheen Shah Afridi and Junaid Siddiqui, who had 27 wickets each.
