Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Father On U-19 World Cup Success

New Delhi : Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s extraordinary performance at the ICC Under-19 World Cup has captured widespread attention, but his father believes the young batting sensation still has a long way to go before being regarded among cricket’s greats. Sooryavanshi played a pivotal role in India’s record sixth U-19 World Cup title, producing a breathtaking 175-run innings in the final against England -a knock that included 15 sixes and 15 fours, helping India to a commanding 100-run victory in Harare.

Despite the accolades and Player of the Series honours that followed his remarkable campaign, Vaibhav’s father, Sanjeev Sooryavanshi, stressed that Test cricket remains the ultimate benchmark of a “big” cricketer. “Till the time he does not play Tests, I won’t consider him a big cricketer,” he told The Times of India. Sanjeev spoke emotionally about his son’s journey from their home in Samastipur, Bihar, reflecting on the pride and pressure that come with such early success.

Sooryavanshi’s rise has sparked exuberant reactions back home, with coaches and fans alike celebrating his achievement and recognising his potential to inspire a new generation of players from the region. His coach, Manish Ojha, noted that messages of support and admiration have flooded in following his World Cup heroics, underscoring how the batter’s performance has resonated with many.

While acknowledging that his son’s achievements in youth cricket are historic, Sanjeev reiterated his belief that there is much more to accomplish, particularly in the longer formats of the game. He urged Vaibhav to remain humble and focused on improving every aspect of his craft as he transitions toward higher levels of competitive cricket.

Vaibhav’s record-breaking innings and India’s triumph in the U-19 World Cup have already etched their place in youth cricket history, but for his father, the journey toward becoming a truly great player has only just begun.
