Haaland hands Manchester City 1-0 win; Arsenal’s 200-day reign at the top of the Premier League ends

London: Manchester City surged to the top of the Premier League standings on Wednesday after a 1-0 victory over Burnley, marking a remarkable rise in form over the past 40 days. The decisive moment came from Erling Haaland, whose lone goal ended Arsenal’s 200-day dominance at the top of the table.
City, who last won the league title in the 2023–24 season, relied on Haaland’s early strike in the fifth minute to secure the crucial win. After taking the lead, City’s defence held firm, denying Burnley’s forwards any real opportunity to score.
Both Manchester City and Arsenal are now level on 70 points, with an identical goal difference of +37. However, City move ahead to the top spot due to scoring more goals (66) compared to Arsenal’s 63.
As recently as March 14, City trailed Arsenal by nine points. However, a run of three consecutive wins, coupled with Arsenal’s back-to-back defeats, has allowed City to draw level. Notably, City also secured a 2-1 victory over Arsenal on April 19, further tightening the title race.
