IPL 2026: ‘Hat-trick’ Award Winner Sameer Rizvi Eyes Historic IPL Record

New Delhi: 22-year-old right-handed batsman Sameer Rizvi, who hails from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, has stunned everyone with his explosive performances in the ongoing IPL season.

When Chennai Super Kings bought him for a whopping ₹8.40 crore in the 2024 IPL auction, it raised eyebrows, especially since he had not delivered any extraordinary performances until then. However, representing Delhi Capitals this season, Rizvi has turned things around in spectacular fashion.

He has already completed a hat-trick of Man of the Match awards, placing himself among elite company. Now, if he wins the award again in Wednesday’s match against Gujarat Titans in Delhi, he will create a new IPL record by becoming the first player to win four consecutive Man of the Match awards.

Bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹95 lakh

Sameer Rizvi was acquired by Delhi Capitals for ₹95 lakh. So far, only seven players in IPL history — including Rizvi — have won the Man of the Match award in three consecutive matches.

Match-Winning Performances

Rizvi’s incredible run began in the 2025 season:

Against Punjab Kings: 58 off 25 balls* (5 sixes, 3 fours) – Man of the Match

IPL 2026 vs Lucknow Super Giants: 70 off 47 balls – Man of the Match

IPL 2026 vs Mumbai Indians: 90 off 51 balls – Man of the Match

With these back-to-back performances, he sealed his hat-trick of awards and emerged as a key player for Delhi Capitals.
