Sydney : In the opening T20 International of the three-match series against Australia Women, the India women’s cricket team won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday afternoon. The decision from Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur came after a brief rain delay that pushed back the toss by around 10–15 minutes.
India will begin their tour of Australia with this T20I contest, which forms part of an extended visit that also includes three ODIs and a one-off Test match scheduled later in February and March. After winning the toss, Harmanpreet chose to field first, a move influenced by the prevailing conditions and the team’s strategic outlook for the opening game.

The match marks the start of a challenging series for India against a strong Australian side led in the shortest format by Sophie Molineux, who has taken over captaincy in T20Is following Alyssa Healy’s retirement from Twenty20 cricket.
On a wicket that is expected to offer some assistance to bowlers early on, the Indian attack will aim to restrict the home side’s batting lineup and set the tone for the series. Both teams have unveiled their playing XIs ahead of the toss, with India fielding experienced players such as Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma.
The Australian team, missing a few seasoned campaigners but boosted by fresh talent, will look to post a competitive total once the Indian bowlers complete their allotted overs. The series opener promises an intriguing tactical battle as both sides gear up ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup later this year.
