Auckland: New Zealand have suffered two setbacks even before India begin their five-match T20 series under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer on October 22, as two of the hosts’ experienced fast bowlers have been ruled out of the series due to injuries.
Mark Chapman and Zak Foulkes have sustained injuries. Chapman has injured his left thigh, while Foulkes has suffered an injury to his right hip. Josh Clarkson and Blair Tickner have been named in the squad as their replacements.
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter told reporters, “It is a big blow for us that Chapman and Foulkes will not be available for the series against India because of their injuries. I hope they recover very soon. Clarkson and Blair are good fast bowlers, and they are eager to play in the series against India.”
All-rounder Rachin Ravindra is also set to miss the series after injuring his shoulder a few days ago. He fell onto a safety net while attempting to take a catch during the filming of a promotional event. As a result, Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand side have now suffered three injury setbacks.
Fast bowler Adam Milne will return to T20 internationals after a year. New Zealand’s other key bowlers include Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy, all of whom could pose a serious challenge to India.
