Colombo: With just a day left for the high-voltage India vs Pakistan showdown in Colombo in the T20 World Cup, reports suggest that rain could play spoilsport before and during the match.
Although the skies over Sri Lanka’s capital have remained clear for the past two days, the Sri Lankan government’s Meteorological Department has warned that a low-pressure system is forming over the Bay of Bengal. As a result, rain and possible thunderstorms could affect the match on Sunday evening.
The much-awaited India-Pakistan encounter will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo’s Khettarama area. The region usually experiences hot and humid mornings, with afternoon temperatures rising to around 31 degrees Celsius.
According to the latest weather forecast, rain could begin in the afternoon, with a 50 to 70 percent chance of showers during match hours.
The toss is scheduled for 6:30 PM, with the first ball to be bowled at 7:00 PM. Some reports indicate rainfall may arrive a few hours before the match, potentially leaving the outfield wet. While the pitch will remain covered, damp conditions could lead to delays, interruptions, or even a reduction in overs. There is also a possibility that the toss could be postponed.
However, officials at the Premadasa Stadium have assured that the venue is equipped with a modern drainage system and large pitch covers. Even in case of heavy rain, the ground staff can reportedly clear the pitch and outfield within 45 to 60 minutes, allowing play to resume quickly.
