Football on a Cricket Pitch! Himmat Singh’s Accidental Kick Leads to One of the Most Bizarre Run-Outs Ever

New Delhi: Cricket has witnessed countless thrilling T20 finishes in which one team snatches victory with a brilliant last-over performance. However, an incident where a player’s moment of frustration unexpectedly helped his team stay alive in the match is perhaps a first. Such a bizarre moment unfolded in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) two days ago.

During a DPL match, fielder Himmat Singh accidentally kicked the ball after a misfield. The ball struck the non-striker’s stumps directly, resulting in a run-out that forced the match into a Super Over instead of ending with a victory.

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Outer Delhi Warriors needed just one run off the final ball to chase down a target of 156. Batter Pratham Saluja pushed the ball towards mid-on and sprinted for the winning run. New Delhi Tigers captain Himmat Singh rushed forward to collect the ball but misfielded. Frustrated by his mistake, he instinctively kicked the ball away. Remarkably, the ball flew straight into the non-striker’s stumps. Saluja had not made his ground and was run out.

For a few moments, Himmat himself did not realize what had happened. It was only after his teammates began celebrating the wicket that he understood his accidental kick had produced a crucial run-out. With the FIFA World Cup having concluded only recently, it almost seemed as if the cricketer briefly turned into a footballer. His direct hit came not from his hand, but from his foot.

Thanks to Himmat Singh’s extraordinary piece of luck, New Delhi Tigers, led by Siddhant Sharma, also finished on 155 in reply to Outer Delhi’s total, taking the contest into a Super Over.

Earlier in the match, Himmat had played a brilliant knock of 61 off just 25 balls, smashing five sixes and four fours to guide New Delhi Tigers to 155. Outer Delhi Warriors were then set a target of 156.

In the Super Over, Outer Delhi Warriors posted 20/1 from six balls, powered by three sixes from Monu Shukla. In reply, Himmat Singh hit a six off the very first ball but was dismissed on the second delivery. Hrithik Shokeen also lost his wicket on the third ball as New Delhi Tigers slumped to 6/2, handing Outer Delhi Warriors victory.

Ironically, despite Himmat Singh’s unforgettable kick-induced run-out that kept his team alive, Outer Delhi Warriors eventually went on to win the match.
