David Warner Charged With Drunk Driving in Sydney, Returns to Pakistan for PSL Duties

Former Australian opener David Warner has been charged with drink driving after being stopped during a random breath test in Maroubra, Sydney.
According to news.com.au, police said the 39-year-old pulled over and parked his car before reaching the testing site. Officers approached his vehicle and conducted a breath test, which returned a positive result. Warner was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.104. He is due to appear in court next month.
Warner had briefly returned to Australia during a gap in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 schedule. He is currently captaining the Karachi Kings and was expected back in Pakistan ahead of the team’s next fixture on April 9. The Kings, sitting second on the PSL points table with three consecutive wins, face Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Warner retired from international cricket in 2024 after playing 112 Tests, 161 ODIs and 110 T20Is for Australia, amassing over 15,000 runs across all three formats. He also captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL title in 2016.
Since retiring, Warner has remained active in franchise cricket. In the recently concluded BBL14 season with the Sydney Thunder, he finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 433 runs 201 runs clear of the team’s next-best batter, Matthew Gilkes. Warner captained the side to the BBL final, where they lost to the Hobart Hurricanes. He has already signed with the Thunder for the upcoming BBL15 season.

“It was certainly a challenging year for us. We are a much better team than what we put on the field this season and were unable to put a consistent game together,” Warner said when his new deal was confirmed. “But the support from our fans turning up in numbers every game it played a massive role in my decision to stay. I feel I’ve got plenty more to give to this team and to this game.”
“We’ve already begun reviewing the season and putting the right plans in place to ensure we deliver a much stronger campaign in BBL16,” he added.
