Bangladesh Lose in Less Than Two Days, Australia Win by an Innings: Another Record Added to Shortest Test History

Mackay: Hosts Australia defeated Bangladesh by an innings in the second and final Test here in less than two days, creating several new records. It was the second-shortest Test played in Australia in the 149-year history of Test cricket.

The match lasted only 750 balls. The shortest Test ever played in Australia was the 1932 Melbourne Test, which ended after just 656 balls and remains in the record books as the shortest Test on Australian soil.

The Australia-Bangladesh Test, which ended on Sunday, became the fourth-shortest Test match overall in the 149-year history of Test cricket.

The Test had only begun on Saturday, but 18 wickets fell on the opening day. On Sunday, Australia’s first innings ended at 210, giving them a 146-run lead, before Bangladesh were bowled out for just 95 in their second innings.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who had taken six wickets in the first innings, claimed four more in the second innings.

Starc finished the match with 10 wickets and was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series.

Captain Pat Cummins and spinner Nathan Lyon also played important roles in bowling Bangladesh out for 95 in the second innings, taking three wickets each.

Bangladesh had created history by winning the first Test of the series on Australian soil. However, the Kangaroos bounced back to win the second and final Test and level the series 1-1.
