Yogi Adityanath Responds to PM Modi Retirement Speculation, Talks About His Political Future

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed growing speculation regarding his political future amid rumors about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s potential retirement. Speaking to news agency PTI, Adityanath made it clear that he does not see politics as his full-time profession.

Yogi Adityanath on Political Ambitions

When asked about public support for him as a future prime minister, Adityanath stated, “I am the Chief Minister of the state because the party has placed me here for the people of Uttar Pradesh. Politics is not my full-time job.” He also hinted at the temporary nature of political roles, adding, “As long as we are here, we are working… but there will be a time limit to this too.”

RSS and BJP Dismiss Modi Retirement Rumors

His comments come amid claims by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who alleged that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) wanted PM Modi to step down by September, in line with the informal “75-year rule.” The speculation was fueled by reports that Modi was reminded of this norm during his visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. However, both the BJP and RSS have strongly denied these claims. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis dismissed the rumors, stating, “In 2029, we will see Modi ji as the Prime Minister again.”

Yogi Adityanath on BJP Relations

Addressing speculation about differences between him and the BJP leadership, Adityanath denied any tensions. “Where does the question of differences come from? I am sitting here because of the party. Can I continue sitting here if I have differences with central leaders?” he said. He also clarified that ticket distribution is handled by the BJP’s parliamentary board, ensuring a structured decision-making process.

Yogi Adityanath’s Leadership in Uttar Pradesh

As the longest-serving Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Adityanath has led the state for nine years, focusing on law enforcement, economic growth, and Hindutva policies. His tenure has seen strict crackdowns on crime, the bulldozing of properties of alleged offenders, and a rise in police encounters. Major religious events, including the grand consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, have also been significant milestones.

Despite these efforts, the BJP faced setbacks in Uttar Pradesh during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, winning only 33 seats—29 fewer than in 2019. This electoral decline has sparked discussions about internal party dynamics and the future political landscape in India.
