The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall on August 19, 2025. The monsoon is expected to remain active over southern and central India for the next three to four days, according to the IMD’s Monday bulletin. An orange alert has been issued for Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, and parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka, signaling significant rainfall.
In Delhi, the Yamuna River has breached the danger mark of 205.33 meters, raising flood concerns in low-lying areas. The IMD predicts cloudy skies in the capital with a chance of very light rain or thundershowers on Tuesday, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 26°C at the minimum and 33°C to 34°C at the maximum. Authorities are closely monitoring the rising river levels, with evacuation measures ready if the water reaches 206 meters.
Telangana faces heavy rainfall in isolated areas, particularly in Adilabad, Komaram, Bheem, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Medak, and Kamareddy districts. The IMD’s orange alert underscores the risk of flooding in these regions.
In Gujarat, the red alert highlights a high likelihood of intense rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, with scattered heavy showers expected until August 22. Jammu and Kashmir are also bracing for isolated heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, over the next week.
Himachal Pradesh continues to face severe monsoon impacts, with the state disaster management authority reporting 268 deaths since June 20, including 140 from rain-related incidents and 128 from road accidents. The IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall in the state for the next seven days, exacerbating concerns about landslides and flooding.
