‘Will Continue to Have Firm Stance on Terrorism’: Jaishankar After India Pakistan Agreed to Ceasefire

NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday confirmed that India and Pakistan had reached an agreement to cease all ongoing military operations. He emphasized that while hostilities are set to pause, India’s position on terrorism remains resolute.

“India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action,” Jaishankar stated, underlining New Delhi’s unwavering opposition to terrorism in every form.

It will continue to do so,” Jaishankar said in post on X.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri detailed that the agreement followed a call initiated by Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) at 15:35 IST. During the conversation, both sides consented to halt all military engagements on land, at sea, and in the air—effective from 17:00 IST. Orders have been issued to enforce the ceasefire, and a follow-up dialogue is scheduled for 12 May at noon.

“Pakistan’s DGMO called Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land, in the air & sea with effect from 1700 hours IST,” said Misri. “Instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. They will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours.”

In a post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump claimed that the ceasefire resulted from diplomatic efforts led by Washington. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that he and Vice President JD Vance had spoken with Indian and Pakistani leadership over the previous two days.

“Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik,” Rubio wrote on X.

This agreement follows heightened tensions triggered by the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 militants were reportedly killed. In response, India had launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, targeting terrorist facilities across Pakistan.
