WhatsApp Call Recording Exposes Punjab Top Cop’s Bribery Demand, Punjab’s Top Cop HS Bhullar Sent To Jail

New Delhi : Punjab’s Deputy Inspector General of Police, Harcharan Singh Bhullar, was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Friday after being caught red-handed accepting Rs 8 lakh from a scrap dealer. The complainant had been summoned to Bhullar’s Mohali office for the first instalment when the CBI swooped in on Thursday.

Bhullar, through his middleman Krishanu, demanded a bribe to settle an FIR. Bhullar allegedly also sought monthly payments (sewa-paani) and threatened to falsely implicate the complainant in criminal cases if the payments were not made, the complaint further stated. During CBI verification in October in Chandigarh, a recorded WhatsApp call captured Bhullar instructing Kirshanu to collect Rs 8 lakh from the complainant, confirming the demand.
