Vishal Dadlani Questions Parliament’s 10-Hour Vande Mataram Debate, Calls It Misuse of Time and Funds

Singer and music composer Vishal Dadlani has slammed the Parliament’s recent 10-hour discussion on Vande Mataram, terming it a misuse of time and taxpayer money. Through a viral video, Dadlani raised questions about legislative priorities while pointing to unaddressed pressing issues.
The Lok Sabha held a marathon 10-hour debate on Monday to commemorate the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, Vande Mataram, triggering responses from political circles and the public.
The discussion focused on the historical and cultural significance of Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, which holds deep connections to India’s freedom struggle and national heritage. Dadlani’s criticism, however, has reignited conversations about how parliamentary time is utilized amid current challenges.
Through his video, Dadlani sarcastically questioned whether the extended debate indicated that India’s major concerns had been resolved. His caption read, “Happy news for everyone!! And congratulations to India!”
He stated in the clip, “Hello brothers and sisters, great news for you all. Yesterday, our Parliament debated Vande Mataram for 10 hours, a popular patriotic song written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. People love it deeply. Because of this debate, let me tell you…unemployment in India has been solved. Indigo’s issues have been solved. Air pollution has been solved. Imagine! Ten hours of debate on a poem. These issues weren’t even mentioned, yet apparently they’re all solved now. This is what the debate achieved.”
His comments appeared aimed at the apparent neglect of critical national issues including joblessness and pollution.
Dadlani also drew attention to the cost of running Parliament. He noted, “One minute of Parliament costs 2.5 lakh. Ten hours means 600 minutes…you do the math.”
The video gained significant traction across social media platforms. While some users supported Dadlani’s viewpoint about prioritizing concrete policy matters, others argued for the value of discussing cultural and patriotic themes in national conversations.
