Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau have jointly emphasized their nations’ commitment to maintaining regional stability and peace during high-level diplomatic discussions in Washington. The officials explored the comprehensive scope of Indo-American bilateral relations and mutual strategic objectives.
The Indian Embassy in Washington reported that Misri conducted an excellent inaugural meeting with Landau on Wednesday, covering extensive bilateral discussions and common priorities between the two nations.
According to State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Landau reinforced the strong partnership between America and India, describing it as a fundamental element of US international relations strategy for the 21st century.
“The deputy secretary and the foreign secretary also reaffirmed their shared desire to maintain regional stability and peace,” Bruce stated.
Landau highlighted the significance of equitable and mutual market access in promoting economic development and wealth creation in both nations, while stressing the need for enhanced collaboration on immigration issues and anti-narcotics efforts, Bruce reported.
The Indian Embassy noted that both Misri and Landau concurred that technology, trade, and talent will define the India-US partnership throughout the 21st century.
The officials renewed their dedication to advancing their leadership’s strategic vision and reinforcing the comprehensive global strategic partnership between India and the United States, according to embassy statements.
In a separate social media update, the Indian Embassy revealed that Misri headed the Indian delegation alongside Deputy National Security Advisor Pavan Kapoor for inter-agency talks regarding the India-US COMPACT for the 21st century initiative.
The American delegation was led by Andy Baker, who serves as Vice-President J.D. Vance’s national security advisor and will assume new duties as deputy national security advisor, along with Counsellor Michael Needham.
“Discussions at the White House focused on implementing the TRUST initiative, taking forward cooperation in the defence and energy domains, and strengthening the Quad, IMEEC, and I2U2 initiatives,” the embassy reported.
Misri’s Washington visit spans May 27-29 for meetings with senior US administration officials, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday.
On Tuesday, Misri held discussions with US Under Secretary Jeffrey Kessler in Washington to enhance bilateral cooperation in critical and emerging technologies, the Indian Embassy confirmed.
This diplomatic engagement follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s February visit to the United States, during which both countries initiated the India-US COMPACT (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce and Technology) for the 21st century, the MEA explained.
The Indian Embassy posted on social media that Misri met with Kessler to advance Indo-American cooperation in critical and emerging technologies.
“They also discussed early convening of the India-US strategic trade dialogue to deepen tech and trade collaboration,” the embassy announced.
