New Delhi : Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Friday officially declared actor-politician Vijay as its chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Vijay categorically rejected any possibility of joining hands with what he called ideological enemies, saying the BJP may sow seeds of poison elsewhere, but not in Tamil Nadu.
He also asserted that TVK would always oppose both DMK and BJP. The party entrusted Vijay with full powers to decide on alliances ahead of the polls. The TVK also resolved to expand its membership base, setting a target of enrolling two crore members in the state. To reach out to the people, Vijay will embark on a statewide tour across Tamil Nadu from September to December this year, meeting voters and mobilising support.
TVK demanded that the Centre retrieve the Katchatheevu island and condemned what it called an attempt to cover up the findings at Keezhadi, which it claimed proved a Tamil civilization dating back over 2000 years. It condemned the Union government and BJP over the way farmers were treated during the Delhi protests, and urged the Tamil Nadu government to drop the proposed Melma SIPCOT industrial expansion plan.
