Vijay Rally Stampede: Actor-politician Announces ₹20 Lakh Aid for Victims’ Families, Says Tragedy Haunts Him

A day after a deadly stampede at his political rally in Karur that claimed nearly 39 lives and left around 60 injured, actor-turned-politician Vijay announced financial assistance for the victims. Each bereaved family will receive ₹20 lakh, while the injured will be given ₹2 lakh, he said on Sunday.

Taking to his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) official X handle, Vijay expressed deep grief over the tragedy. “The incident in Karur has left my heart heavy with sorrow. The pain of losing so many lives is beyond words. The faces of those I met during the rally keep flashing before me,” he wrote.

He said that while no amount can compensate for the loss of life, it was his duty to stand by the families. “I will provide ₹20 lakh to each family that has lost a loved one, and ₹2 lakh to those injured. This may not replace their loss, but I want to share their pain as one among them,” he added.

The actor-politician also prayed for the speedy recovery of those under treatment and assured that TVK would continue to support the affected. “By God’s grace, let us gather strength to recover from this grief,” his statement concluded.

The stampede occurred after an overcrowded rally turned chaotic, with officials saying that while permission was granted for 10,000 people, over 50,000 supporters turned up. Panic ensued, leading to one of Tamil Nadu’s deadliest political tragedies.
